E15 mums’ story set for the stage in Edinburgh

HEROIC housing campaign group Focus E15 Mums will be immortalised by an independent theatre company’s new play showing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this month.

Sheffield’s FYSA Theatre has adapted the story of Jasmin Stone, Sam Middleton and the other 27 young mothers, kicked out of their homeless hostel in 2013 by Newham Council.

The show, entitled E15, has already gathered plaudits, with the Ed Fringe Review calling it “a highly recommended, flawless show.”

FYSA worked on testimonies from campaigners, councillors and witnesses of the struggle between the young women and the local authority. The aim was to “truthfully” address “the themes of community, strength and solidarity in the face of overwhelming adversity.

“E15 explores the most prominent yet ignored issues in Britain today.”

Focus E15, however, will not be viewing the play until the end of August, but said they “couldn’t wait.”
