VILE FANS MUST PAY

Anti-semitic West Ham Tube chanting caught on camera

SPURS demanded tough action yesterday against a clutch of alleged West Ham fans belting out “vile” anti-semitic chants.

Video clips were posted online late on Sunday that appeared to show supporters singing a terrace song mocking Tottenham locals for their lack of foreskins, interrupted by refrains of “fucking Jew,” on the London Underground.

West Ham aren’t the only club to have groups of fans unleashing anti-semitic abuse on Tottenham supporters owing to The Lillywhites historic link to the Jewish community.

But as recently as 2012, two Hammers fans were slapped with life bans for making nazi salutes and singing songs about Hitler during the same tie.

West Ham was keen to insist it has a “zero-tolerance” policy to racism and anti-semitism.

Spurs branded “any form” of anti-semitism “wholly unacceptable.”

A spokesman said: “We hope that those individuals responsible for this vile behaviour are identified and dealt with in the strongest way possible.”

Every supporter who bought a ticket to Sunday’s game was reminded to steer well clear of such behaviour, said the club.

“If any individual is found to have behaved in an inappropriate way, the club’s simple, zero-tolerance policy dictates that they will face the strongest possible action, including the option of a life ban from the Boleyn Ground,” said a spokesman.

“If anyone has any information on such behaviour we would urge them to report it to the club, (anti-racism campaign) Kick It Out or the police so it can be investigated thoroughly.”

British Transport Police was already probing the latest incident, with a spokesman saying: “We take these incidents very seriously and it is clear what happened on the Paris Metro and at St Pancras the following night were not isolated events.”

Just days ago a mob of Chelsea supporters caused another race storm, pushing a black Parisian off the city’s Metro and singing of their pride in being racist.

Kick It Out chairman Lord Ouseley praised the Blues for the quick action they’d taken, swiftly banning five supporters from Stamford Bridge.

But, referring to the more recent images, he sounded a warning bell over levels of reporting.

“What would have happened if we hadn’t seen this footage or it hadn’t been reported,” he asked.

“We need to give people the confidence to challenge discriminatory and abusive behaviour and this can only be reinforced by action being taken by the police and within football by the clubs and authorities.”

The odious behaviour in north London stands in stark contrast to the anti-racist stance by a more representative group of West Ham fans on Sunday.

Mocking the behaviour of the Chelsea fans in Paris, a group uploaded a short video of them allowing a black man onto a train in east London to show quite how easy it is.
