AL-QAIDA leader Ayman alZawahri called on Sunday for sectarian guerilla war across Syria and Iraq in the face of looming defeats.
“Our people in [Syria], prepare yourselves for a long battle with the crusaders and their allies the Shi’ites and Alawites,” he urged in a video released on the internet.
He said the “international satanic alliance” would never accept Islamist rule in Syria, where Russia, Iran, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Palestinian and Iraqi volunteer militia are all fighting the terrorist group.
Yesterday, Syrian troops continued their advance against the al-Qaida-led Hetesh alliance in northern Hama province, which has seen the extremists driven back from within three miles of the provincial capital to more than 10.
Meanwhile, some 500 gunmen and their families left the al-Waer suburb of Homs in the latest stage of a ceasefire deal.
They were taken to the Turkish-occupied northern border town of Jarabulus.
