LECTURERS have cancelled a marking boycott after the majority voted to accept a pay offer yesterday.
University and College Union members have decided to take the 2 per cent pay rise proposed by employers.
“UCU members have made it overwhelmingly clear that they wish to accept the 2 per cent pay offer and call off the proposed marking boycott,” said UCU general secretary Sally Hunt.
“We shall be informing universities of their decision and that the marking boycott is off.”
Four out of five of those taking part in the ballot decided to end the dispute.
The proposed marking boycott — which was postponed to May 6 so that teachers could consider the new pay offer — was overwhelmingly supported by students according to a recent Guardian poll.
There was some “disappointment” expressed on social media from mainly younger union members.
Talks between the union and employers will continue over outstanding equalities issues like the gender pay gap.
