Lebanese soldier injured by Israeli fire

Israel claims it was targeting border-crossers

A LEBANESE soldier was injured yesterday after being shot by Israeli troops who opened fire on the border, security officials said.

UN peacekeeping force Unifil said it was looking into the incident.

The Israeli military claimed that its soldiers had opened fire on a number of suspects who had crossed from Lebanon into territory under Israeli control.

It did not say whether the suspects — who it claimed back into Lebanon after the shooting — were militants or civilians or where the incident occurred.
