Co-operative supermarkets came under fire yesterday after a customer pictured dried and canned goods labelled as “ideal items for the food bank.”
“It’s easy to get used to these things but a shop advertising tinned food as ‘ideal for the foodbank’ has floored me,” wrote Dan Paris, who posted a picture of the shelves on Twitter.
A spokeswoman for the Central England Co-operative Society said the label was placed because “we have permanent foodbanks situated in over 60 of our food stores, in response to requests from local foodbanks and our customers to support them.”
