A PAKISTANI court suspended a detention order on alleged 2008 Mumbai attacks mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi yesterday.
Mr Lakhvi is accused of leading the terror siege that left 166 people dead.
The Mumbai carnage was blamed on the banned Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba and India has long seethed over Islamabad’s failure to either hand over or prosecute those accused of planning and organising the violence.
A court granted Mr Lakhvi bail on December 18, drawing a furious response from India, but political authorities ordered Mr Lakhvi’s detention under public order legislation.
But the Islamabad High Court suspended the detention yesterday.
The move is likely to further anger New Delhi, which suspects Pakistani intelligence agencies of having a hand in the attacks.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the bail order was “a shock to all those who believe in humanity the world over.”
