Williams defeats Halep in Singapore

Tennis: Serena Williams overcame a shaky start yesterday to beat Simona Halep 6-3 6-0 and claim a fifth WTA Finals title.

The triumph was all the more remarkable given that Halep had cruised to a 6-0 6-2 win when the two women met in the pool stages of the tournament on Wednesday.

Albania eyes an appeal to CAS

Football: The Albanian FA has said that it will appeal against a Uefa punishment resulting from a match against Serbia to the Court of Arbitration in Sport if necessary.

Following the chaos in Belgrade, when brawls erupted after a drone flew over the pitch trailing a map of “Greater Albania,” Uefa fined each side £80,000, awarded Serbia a 3-0 victory but then stripped it of the three points.

Albanian FA president Armand Duka called the ruling on Friday “a politically-influenced compromise.”
