Andy Murray marked his first match since his Australian Open final defeat to Novak Djokovic last month with victory at the World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam yesterday.
Top seed Murray took one hour and 33 minutes to beat veteran Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 6-3 6-2 and set up a second-round meeting with Canadian Vasek Pospisil, who defeated Germany’s Phillip Kohlschreiber.
Murray — a winner of the tournament in 2009 — showed no ill effects from his loss to Djokovic as he did not face a single break point in the opening set.
The Scot coasted into a 5-0 lead in the second set before Mahut briefly rallied, breaking Murray for the first and only time in the game before the favourite closed out for victory.
