Carlisle sacked manager Greg Abbott today following the club’s poor start to the League One season.
The Cumbrians, who slumped to a fourth league defeat of the season at the weekend, lie third from bottom in the table after registering just two points from their first six matches.
Abbott, 49, was the third-longest serving manager currently in the Football League having been appointed as John Ward’s successor at Brunton Park in December 2008.
Assistant boss Graham Kavanagh and youth team coach David Irons have been placed in temporary charge.
