C4 exposé skewers rich party donors’ easy access

THE murky world of party donors was exposed last night in a Dispatches investigation.

Rich donors to the three main political parties were investigated in the Channel 4 programme.

At a Carlton Club lunch, Tory donor Alexander Temerko — a former boss of the Russian oil giant Yukos — appeared to have the power to influence a change of prime minister.

Mr Temerko, who has made donations totalling £220,000 to 24 MPs, was seen sitting next to Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

Before Mr Hunt arrived, the energy firm OGN director was heard saying he supports 37 MPs, adding: “You know for a change (of) prime minister you need 20. I have 37, much more than half.”

Mr Temerko’s lawyers told the programme that the conservations was “light-hearted.”
