John Terry came off the bench to score twice late on and give Chelsea a narrow win over League Two side AFC Wimbledon.
Jose Mourinho fielded a team mixing youth and experience but saw his side go a goal down after 38 seconds courtesy of Alan Bennett.
It was 2-0 just before the break when Matt Tubbs converted from the spot to set up a possible upset after being fouled by Kurt Zouma.
At half time, Chelse made eight changes as they looked for an opening back into the match.
Terry and Branislav Ivanovic were brought in to provide a bit of steel at the back and Nathan Baker was brought on to provide some creativity after a very flat 45 minutes from the Blues.
Terry was involved within two minutes of coming off the bench, forcing a good save from Dons goalkeeper James Shea.
The away side pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute when a Baker corner was poorly cleared and Terry slammed home from close range.
With 10 minutes to go, Baker found Mohamed Salah with a defence-splitting pass and the Egyptian winger coolly found the net to draw the sides level.
As the game looked set for a draw, another Baker corner found Terry whose powerful header beat subsfitute goalkeeper Ross Worner.
Chelsea head off to Austria to continue their pre-season today but Mourinho admitted that there will be no more new signings arriving this window unless players are sold.
“I have to say my club did a fantastic job and not just because of what we bought but a fantastic job because we did it almost in record time,” Mourinho said. “The market closes at August 31 and we close our market on July 19. We finished our market today.”
