UK SPORT’S decision to cut Olympic funding has left the Team GB basketball players living off £15 a day.
Due to the decision, it has also left the players sleeping in beds too small for them as well as the team having to get early flights with cheap airlines as a way of saving money.
Forward Kieron Achara said before last night’s game against Iceland: “It has been a battle mentally as well as physically.
“We didn’t know exactly what the extent of the sacrifice was going to be.
“We are getting £15 a day. We are sleeping in dorm beds. We’ve had some guys whose feet were dead when they woke up because they had been hanging out of the end of the bed.”
