TEXAS police and prosecutors face a $350 million (£288m) lawsuit for the wrongful arrest of a woman bystander to the 2015 Waco biker massacre, it emerged yesterday.
Motorcyclists Morgan English and her husband William were at the Twin Peaks restaurant on May 17 2015 for a meeting of the Texas Confederation of Clubs and Independents when a brawl broke out outside between members of the Bandidos and Cossacks clubs.
Nine men were killed and 20 wounded when concealed police SWAT teams opened fire with assault rifles.
Ms English and 177 other diners were arrested and held on $1m (£820,000) bail under organised crime laws. Lawyer Randall Kallinen said: “She did not know anything about any animosity. She didn’t have a weapon.”
The lawsuit names McLennan county District Attorney Abel Reyna, ex-Waco police chief Brent Stroman, Waco police officer Manuel Chavez, the city of Waco and the county of McLennan as defendants.
