Scotland: MSP calls for probe into blacklisting

LABOUR MSP Neil Findlay has demanded an independent inquiry in Scotland into the blacklisting of union activists.

He called on the Scottish government on Wednesday to launch its own inquiry into the scandal, which wrecked thousands of lives.

More than 500 Scottish workers were blacklisted in the construction and North Sea oil and gas extraction industries.

The construction industry victims were among more than 3,000 identified in 2009 when government investigators exposed the activities of the Consulting Association, which gave bosses names of union and health and safety activists.

An inquiry into blacklisting in Britain is due to start, headed by Lord Justice Pickford.

The Blacklist Support Group welcomed Mr Findlay’s call, with secretary Dave Smith saying it would “work with anyone prepared to fight our corner.”
