Hero Moore given new deal
RUGBY LEAGUE: Scott Moore, who scored the try that kept Wakefield in Super League, was rewarded with a two-year contract yesterday.
The 27-year-old former St Helens and England hooker ruptured his biceps on only his second appearance for the Wildcats in their opening match of the Super 8s Qualifiers but recovered in time to play in the final game of the season, the £1 million match against Bradford to decide the 12th and final place in Super League for 2016.
Moyes given the boot in Spain
FOOTBALL: David Moyes was sacked as head coach of Real Sociedad yesterday.
The former Everton and Manchester United boss moved to San Sebastian, Spain, looking to revive his coaching career in La Liga after being sacked by the Red Devils just seven months into his contract at Old Trafford.
But Moyes, 52, was shown the door one year after taking charge of La Real with the club losing four of their last five games.
Police arrest eight fans
FOOTBALL: Eight fans were arrested during Sunday’s north London derby stalemate between Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham and six were later charged, police confirmed yesterday.
Images emerged on social media during the game at Arsenal’s Ashburton Grove Stadium of toilets being vandalised in the away section.
That followed on from a League Cup fixture between the pair last month that saw Arsenal supporters pulling advertising hoardings off the stands at White Hart Lane.
