Unions vote to kick Sun’s sexist P3 out of the office

UNIONS voted yesterday to implement a workplace boycott of The Sun in a bid to effectively ban the newspaper’s infamously sexist Page 3.

The decision was taken by the overwhelming majority of delegates at this year’s TUC Women’s Conference after a lengthy debate on the objectification of women in the media.

Proposed by the Fire Brigades Union, the motion mandated the TUC to lead a campaign “that discourages our members from purchasing and bringing The Sun tabloid into our workplaces.”

Page 3 was labelled a “sexist relic” and “anti-woman and anti-worker” by the union.

University and College Union delegate Saira Weiner told the conference that the ban was important since “equality should be at the heart of every struggle.”

The motion was carried by a large majority with only four delegates voting against.
