ISRAEL sought to blame Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for the ongoing wave of violence yesterday as it deployed 300 troops on the streets of Jerusalem.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Mr Abbas of “lies and incitement” after he mistakenly said that a Palestinian boy attacked by racist Israelis had died.
Mr Abbas said that Israel was engaged in the “summary execution of our children in cold blood,” adding that 13-year-old Ahmed Manasra was among the dead.
The boy was run over by an Israeli vehicle after his cousin was shot dead in a stabbing attack on an Israeli boy in east Jerusalem.
Widely circulated video of the incident shows Israelis gathered round shouting: “Die!” at the injured Ahmed, who was taken to hospital.
“He tried to kill and murder,” Mr Netanyahu claimed. “But the complete opposite is presented in a twisted way.”
US Secretary of State John Kerry backed Israel’s right to defend itself yesterday, but offered no such words to the dead and wounded Palestinians.
