DEMONSTRATIONS erupted yesterday in major towns and cities over the world, demanding the release of five Palestinian teenagers imprisoned by Israeli security forces two years ago charged with causing a traffic accident.
On March 15 2013, a car crashed into the back of a truck injuring an Israeli settler and her three daughters.
The incident took place outside the Palestinian town of Hares. Israel blamed stone-throwers for the accident and arrested five Palestinian youths.
The boys are still imprisoned and have become known as the Hares Five.
Their case has been taken up by the Palestinian prisoners’ organisation Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, which called for demonstrations on the anniversary of the boys’ arrests.
The call was taken up in Manchester where it was supported by Manchester Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC).
Manchester PSC is demanding the city’s council cancel contracts with security firm G4S, which provides services to Israeli security forces.
