One last blast from mighty garage rockers

Jim Jones Revue
The Forum, London NW5
4 stars

WHAT a roller coaster seven years it has been for the Jim Jones Revue — and of course their fans who have been lucky enough to catch at least one of their explosive gigs.

With three albums under their belts, not nearly enough in many people’s eyes, they’ve now unfortunately decided to throw in the towel with a final electrifying gig the Last Hurrah at Kentish Town’s Forum.

With support from punk rockers Walter Lure, John J Presley and surprise guest singer-songwriter Nick Lowe

If you’ve been to one of their gigs before, you’ll know exactly what sort of adrenaline-charged frenzy to expect.

Crashing onto stage, they begin with newish favourites from their last album the Savage Heart, It’s Gotta Be About Me, swiftly followed by Where Da Money Go and Seven Times Around the Sun, with a few of their old classics such as High Horse, Who’s Got Mine and Another Daze chucked in as well.

But by this point, it really doesn’t matter what songs they play as each one — with Jim Jones’s screeching vocals, Rupert Orton ferociously attacking his guitar and the ever-energetic Henri Herbert pounding his piano — sounds as thrilling as the last.

I only have one main complaint for their thrilling, sweaty and savagely entertaining last gig — the two-hour set just wasn’t long enough.
