David Ginola aims to combine the men’s and women’s World Cups should he be elected as president of Fifa, he announced on Tuesday.
Currently the women’s tournament is held a year after the men’s and in different countries.
The Olympics currently employs a model where both competitions coincide with each other, something the Frenchman is keen to bring to football.
Speaking to BBC Radio he said: “We’re talking about equality because we want women to be treated as well as the men.
“We want the women’s World Cup to be organised and played right after the men’s World Cup.
“For example, it would have been in Brazil using the structure of the men’s World Cup. It would be interesting to see how we can set this up.”
Current president Sepp Blatter in 2004 famously wanted women to “play in more feminine clothes like they do in volleyball.
“They could, for example, have tighter shorts.
“Female players are pretty, if you excuse me for saying so, and they already have some different rules to men — such as playing with a lighter ball.”
