Police consider probe into Galloway expenses

PARLIAMENT’S standards watchdog has referred a complaint about former Bradford West MP George Galloway’s expenses to police, it said yesterday.

The Respect politician’s former parliamentary assistant Aisha Ali Khan reported him to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) earlier this year, claiming that she spent more time on his personal errands than on official work.

Duties during Ms Ali Khan’s taxpayer-funded six-month stint included underwear shopping, laundry and planning his wedding, she alleges.

The Met said that it was assessing whether to launch a full investigation into the claims.

Mr Galloway said the referral was news to him and blasted a “breach of natural justice … undoubtedly inspired by Kafka.”

He complained that Ipsa had not asked him for any response to the allegations and that he had not been told what the complaint was about.
