The Grand Budapest Hotel (15)
Directed by Wes Anderson
4 Stars
Wes Anderson is on sublime form in this beautifully surreal and visually exquisite comedy drama.
Told in flashback, it centres on the adventures of Gustave H (Ralph Fiennes) - legendary concierge at the infamous Grand Bupadest hotel - and Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori) the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend and protege.
Set between the wars in the fictional east European republic of Zubrowka, the story revolves around the theft of a famous renaissance painting.
Once again Anderson has gathered an eclectic but star-studded cast which includes Fiennes, Jude Law, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum and Harvey Keitel as well as his regulars Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman.
Fiennes and Revolori form a sweet and endearing double act and the former manages to make Gustave interestingly eccentric despite his creepy penchant for rich old ladies.
Another visual delight by Anderson. This delightfully whimsical and highly amusing journey is not to be missed.
