11 ‘militants’ die in US drone attack in Waziristan

A US drone fired missiles at a compound in Pakistan’s north-western tribal region on Saturday, killing 11 alleged militants.

Pakistani officials said the strike happened in Datta Khel, a town in North Waziristan which borders Afghanistan.

They said most of the dead were members of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.

After assuming office a year ago, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif tried to negotiate with the Taliban and urged the US to refrain from drone strikes during talks.

But negotiations collapsed in June, prompting the government to order military action in North Waziristan.
