The biggest betting race of the day is the Scottish Grand National Handicap Chase at Ayr at 3.45 and I fancy a huge shock in the form of the Sue Smith-trained Vintage Star.
Of course there is a reason why he is 40/1, mainly due to his recent form and especially his run last time out at Cheltenham, but that is a track which has never suited him and this flat terrain is more up his street.
However, if you go back to his second to Shutthefrontdoor at Carlisle at the beginning of the year then he is thrown in off his current lowly mark of 133 having raced well off a mark in the low 140s.
The ground certainly won’t be a problem and I really think he is worth taking a chance about off his featherweight under the reliable Harry Skelton.
Of the better fancied runners, last year’s hero Al Co is still well treated on his 2014 win and he had no race at all at Aintree last week.
The going has very much come in his favour and he must have a solid each-way chance of going close here.
Sam Winner wasn’t given a hard time once his chance had gone in the Gold Cup and although a mark of 162 will be hard to defy, he has class and stamina in abundance.
The up and coming Sego Success is a horse I very much like and the National Hunt Chase wasn’t really run to suit last time.
For one so inexperienced, he jumps well and there is surely plenty more improvement in him and Alan King knows what it takes to win this race with a youngster.
Of the remainder, Royal Player has to be better than he showed last time out at Doncaster, while Harry The Viking and last year’s third Trustan Times also make the shortlist.
Earlier on, Sign of a Victory is given another chance to fulfil the high praise Nicky Henderson heaped upon him earlier in the season when he contests the Scottish Champion Handicap Hurdle.
He hasn’t really had things go his way this term but he is well handicapped off 147 and gets the vote over Cinders and Ashes.
There is a cracking flat card at Newbury with the two Guineas’ trials and Ivawood can bounce back to winning form in the Greenham at 2.50 with Redstart, a filly I really like, the pick in the Fred Darling Stakes at 2.15.
The Spring Cup Handicap at 3.25 looks as difficult as ever but with fast ground the order of the day I can see Ayaar running a huge race for Luca Cumani.
He is taken to get the better of Lincoln winner Gabrial and the William Haggas trained Dream Spirit.
