FOOTBALL: Celtic will play Icelandic champions KR Reykjavik in their opening Champions League qualifier.

With Celtic Park out of commission because of the Commonwealth Games, Ronny Deila is set for a Murrayfield debut as manager with the final details yet to be confirmed.

The first leg will take place on July 15-16 with the second leg the following week.

 

TENNIS: James Ward’s Wimbledon adventure was cut short by merciless Russian 17th seed Mikhail Youzhny.

On day one of the championships, Youzhny triumphed in straight sets against the British wild-card entry on Court Three.

Youzhny routed world number 154 Ward 6-2 6-2 6-1 in the first round, condemning the 27-year-old Londoner to a comprehensive defeat.

 

CRICKET: England were set an imposing target of 350 to win the Investec Test series against Sri Lanka after touring captain Angelo Mathews struck 160 in a game-changing knock included 25 fours and a six, taking his side to 457 all out at Headingley.
