ACTOR and former Shrewsbury picket Ricky Tomlinson has fronted Labour’s bluntest campaign billboard so far.
The Royle Family star has endorsed Hull East candidate Karl Turner with the words: “Lib Dems, Tories, Ukip, my A%$E.”
Mr Turner, who has spoken up for trade union rights in Parliament, where he has represented his constituency since 2010, welcomed the endorsement from the TV legend.
“We’re not rude enough in east Hull to say my arse,” he quipped yesterday.
“This is a bit of humour on the basis that people engage in politics for different reasons, and Ricky Tomlinson’s a good character to get people’s attention.”
Asked whether the poster was a response to voter apathy, Mr Turner said his background helped him combat perceptions that all politicians were the same.
“Being born and bred in east Hull, I’m fortunate enough to escape that,” he said.
