CALLS for a moratorium on privatisation plans at the National Gallery were boosted yesterday by the support of artist Grayson Perry.
Civil Service union PCS is resisting management’s attempts to outsource 400 of the 600 staff roles at the London museum, with staff taking part in a five-day walkout following 17 days of strike action earlier this year.
Managers plan to put the staffing contract out to tender just days before the general election, but PCS hopes a new government could change course.
Mr Perry is known for producing ceramic vases as well as a series of iconic murals and was recently appointed chancellor of the University of the Arts London.
He was awarded the Turner Prize in 2003.
