PALESTINE solidarity campaigners have raised £15,000 in a single day to resist government plans to wreck the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) revealed the wave of support yesterday after issuing an appeal in the face of government plans to ban local authorities and other public bodies from implementing BDS.
Government plans also aim to ban town halls from refusing to give contracts to firms believed to be responsible for human rights abuses.
PSC issued its appeal to fund a campaign against the proposals. It expected to take a month to get the donations — but achieved its £15,000 target in a single day. The group said that its appeal for donations would continue, with a new target of £30,000.
“It just goes to show the power we have as a movement,” said PSC campaigns officer Rachel Diamond.
“It shows that no matter what is thrown at us we have the strength and community to win.”
