A poor backpass from Vlad Chiriches nearly put Lukaku in before Spurs suddenly equalised, wholly against the run of play.

It emerged through a positive run by Harry Kane, who beat two mean before Tim Howard saved his shot.

However, Eriksen showed composure to chip the rebound into the vacant far corner of the net.

The equaliser gave Tottenham confidence, seen from in-form Kane who was a handful all aternoon, who had another excellent charge forward only ending by shooting straight at Howard.

Eriksen had a deflected shot go just wide, while Seamus Coleman tested Lloris after cutting inside and Soldado could not capitalise on a limp header from Phil Jagielka.

However, in first-half stoppage time, the striker gained his first league goal of the season, sweeping calmly into the far corner from the right after superb work from Aaron Lennon.
