Football: Fifa president Sepp Blatter claimed yesterday that he feels “a little bit like a godfather” towards women’s football.
Blatter claimed in a BBC interview that women’s football was “limping behind” the men’s game and called for more countries to organise women’s leagues and for changes to encourage more women to take official positions.
Blatter, who said in 2004 that women should wear tighter shorts to boost the sport’s popularity, said: “Girls and women add value to the total product and I find it a little bit strange that not more commercial people see that possibility.”

Boxing: Amir Khan announced yesterday that he was up for a bout against Floyd Mayweather in September, saying that his observance of Ramadan wouldn’t affect his preparation.
The Muslim festival ends on July 17 this year and Khan believes that gives him plenty of time to prepare to face the undefeated fighter.
Greaves out of intensive care
Football: Jimmy Greaves is out of intensive care following the severe stroke he suffered on Sunday and is able to sit up in bed, his family said yesterday.
“While he is by no means out of the woods there is room for cautious optimism,” they said in a statement.
