LONDON mayoral hopeful Tessa Jowell was awarded a plush seat in the House of Lords yesterday — despite previously attacking Boris Johnson for having more than one job.
Ms Jowell, who already held a damehood, was allegedly ennobled for her part in bringing the 2012 Olympics to the capital.
But eyebrows were raised when it emerged she had weighed in over incumbent Mr Johnson’s decision to serve as mayor, an MP and a columnist for the Daily Telegraph.
She tweeted last August: “Londoners need representation by their mayor day-in day-out. Transport, homes or jobs, Londoners’ challenges deserve undivided attention.”
She said she had “thought long and hard” before accepting the second gong.
“It is not two jobs,” she told the Evening Standard. “I want one job, which is to be mayor of London. If I am elected mayor that will be my job, and everything else will be in the service of being mayor.”
