Death toll in Shoreham air tragedy reaches 11

AT LEAST 11 people are feared to have died in the Shoreham air crash, police said yesterday.

Sussex Police Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry said the force had identified 11 people whom they were treating as “highly likely to have died in this tragedy.” He added they could not yet formally identify any of those who had lost their lives.

“This has been an enormously traumatic incident and our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected, from those who have suffered bereavement to those in the local community who are deeply shocked,” said Mr Barry.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday when a vintage jet flown by former RAF pilot Andy Hill attempted a loop at an air show but crashed into traffic on a main road.

Mr Hill remained in a critical condition in hospital yesterday.

A crane will lift the remains of the aircraft today and police fear they may find more bodies.
