Israeli snatch squad shoot Palestinian man dead in West Bank refugee camp raid

An Israeli snatch squad shot and killed a Palestinian man yesterday during a raid on a West Bank refugee camp, Palestinian medics said.

Israeli forces entered the al-Amari refugee camp near Ramallah in the early morning allegedly to arrest a Hamas operative and were confronted by about 50 angry Palestinians who hurled stones, petrol bombs and burning tyres at them, an Israeli military spokeswoman said.

“A main instigator attempted to hurl an explosive device at the force, who opened fire in response,” the Israeli spokeswoman said, without elaborating on the nature of the device.

The Israeli squad then arrested the wanted operative and alleged that he had been found to have weapons in his possession.

Ramallah Hospital director Ahmad Betawi named the dead man as 22-year-old Issa al-Qitri and said he had been shot in the heart and died before he reached hospital.
