POLISH border guards barred entry yesterday to 10 members of the Russian motorcycle club Night Wolves intent on following the Red Army’s route to Berlin 70 years ago.
“These people will not cross into Poland,” said border guard spokesman Dariusz Sienicki.
The Night Wolves’ aim is to arrive in Berlin for ceremonies marking the 70th anniversary of the end of war in Europe on May 9.
Their plan is to honour the Red Army soldiers who died in liberating much of Europe, visiting their graves and other war sites.
After the Russian bikers were denied entry, about 100 Polish bikers on their side of the border honked their horns and flashed their lights in protest.
They had hoped to escort the Russians through Poland.
The Russians paid homage in Russia on Sunday at a memorial to Polish officer prisoners of war killed in the Katyn massacres by Soviet troops during World War II.
