All-night Tube strike talks

BOTH sides in the London Underground (LU) dispute met again yesterday in a bid to break the deadlock over new all-night Tube services, with just a week to go before another planned strike.

Talks at conciliation service Acas yesterday centred on the closure of Tube ticket offices, with pay and conditions for the all-night service expected to be discussed today and Friday.

LU agreed not to deduct pay from workers who had followed union instruction to refuse to drive trains that had not been safety checked “as a gesture of goodwill.”

Workers are due to stage a second 24-hour strike starting on the evening of August 5, following rock-solid action on July 8-9. The 24-hour service is due to come in on some lines from September 12.
