Paralympian wants more female volunteers

Tanni Grey-Thompson called yesterday for more to be done to involve women in sport.

The 11-time Paralympic champion wheelchair racer has become a member of the board of Join In, a London 2012 legacy charity that puts more volunteers into community sport.

Grey-Thompson thinks provision needs to be made in order to help women in their participation in sport, whether competing or as volunteers.

She said: “For sport to be equitable, it’s not just having lots of women competing, it’s got to be through every bit of sport.

“Most women will feel a responsibility for childcare, probably a bit more than men. We have to think about how women access opportunities.”
