Mexico: Deep-water petro contracts offered

The government said on Thursday that it was offering its first deep-water oil and gas exploration blocks to bidders as part of opening the sector to private investment.

Energy Secretary Pedro Joaquin said that 10 blocks would open for bidding in September 2016.

Mexico has already awarded contracts for exploration and production on land and in shallow water since it ended 70 years of state oil monopoly in 2014.
