SNP ‘fears victory by left candidate’

THE SNP fears losing ground to Labour if Jeremy Corbyn becomes leader, according to nationalist MP Angus MacNeil.

Mr MacNeil named Mr Corbyn as the candidate the SNP feared most in an interview with Total Politics magazine posted yesterday.

He said: “The one guy we would feel has the most to sort that, who has got the courage and the vision, is Jeremy
Corbyn.”

Reflecting on Labour’s election losses in Scotland, he said that “they got done over on austerity, done over on immigration and they got done over by the SNP.”

But the SNP fears that Mr Corbyn could reverse this trend with his consistent and principled anti-austerity and internationalist politics.

Mr MacNeil mitigated his comments by saying: “But he’s never going to get it, so we don’t fear any of them as a result of that.”
