Player sent off for telling referee he was bitten

Fifa have another situation on their hands when on Saturday, Avellino player Gianmario Comi bit Bari striker Giuseppe De Luca.

And in a suprise twist, it was De Luca who was sent off for protesting to the referee that he was bitten by an opponent.

Comi then went on to draw the game level and Avelino went on to win the game 2-1.

Luis Suarez was banned for four months earlier this summer for biting Giorgio Chiellini and should Fifa choose to hand out a punishment, something similar has to be on the cards.

Bari released a picture on their website a few hours after the game showing De Luca’s arm which clearly has a bite mark on it.

Club president Gianluca Paparesta released a statement after the match saying: “We (Bari) don’t want controversy, but we want to draw attention to incidents such as Comi’s bite on De Luca.

“Bari deserves respect, like all clubs.

“I will continue to work because the public and players have to act in the correct way, no-one should think of coming here and doing as they want.

“That said, compliments to Avellino on reaching the next round.”
