Special One has no room for failure this season

KADEEM SIMMONDS weighs up Mourinho’s chances

SPECIALIST in failure. That is what Jose Mourinho branded Arsene Wenger last season for not winning a major trophy in almost a decade.

But it was the Frenchman who had the last laugh, as he lifted the FA Cup while the Blues had to settle for third place.

Roman Abramovich doesn’t tolerate failure and Mourinho is going to have to deliver silverware this season. Even the Carling Cup may not be enough to save him from the sack for the second time.

Mourinho spent all of last season saying that this was not his Chelsea team. That this team was too young to win anything this season, but next season, after he had brought in a few of his players, they would once again dominate English football.

Well this season is next season and the former Real Madrid manager has run out of excuses already.

He got rid of the players that weren’t his type.

Chelsea’s player and fan player of the year Juan Mata was shipped off to Manchester United in January.

Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole were allowed to leave on free transfers, although he will say that the club offered them another contract.

David Luiz and Romelu Lukaku have been sold for big money and replaced with a number of high-profile players.

In comes Felipe Luis, who had a stellar season with Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.

Cesc Fabregas was plucked from Barcelona for a bargain while Diego Costa has been tasked with firing in the goals to lead the Blues to victory.

And the king has returned. Didier Drogba has been reunited with the manager who made him one of the most feared strikers in Premier League history. Bad news for Arsenal and Liverpool.

Mourinho has assembled his team and, having been given a second chance, failure is not an option.

Chelsea can go direct with Costa and Drogba, battering opposing teams.

Or they can go in behind enemy lines with Fernando Torres, who has managed to stay at the club to the amusement of everyone else.

Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian and World Cup-winner Andre Schurrle have the ability to play beautiful, dazzling but deadly football.

And they are led by their fantastic captain John Terry, with brilliant sidekick Gary Cahill.

There will be no room for error this year. Where they slipped up against the likes of Sunderland, Norwich and Crystal Palace this will not be tolerated again, especially with how strong the top six are looking this year.

Despite not losing to a team inside the top four last season, they lost the league because of their failure to dispose of the so-called lesser teams.

The self-proclaimed Special One will blame everyone but himself if they fail. It will be a dodgy refereeing decision or bad fixture scheduling that stops Chelsea from winning the title next season. Not Mourinho’s tactics on the day.

In terms of fixtures, the opening few months will not be kind.

An away trip to Burnley is a nice fixture to start off with but by the start of November they will have played Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

The two-time Champions League winner will look at those big games in close proximity as an excuse should they lose any of those matches.

But his Russian sugar daddy will not look too kindly on another season of almosts.

If that happens Mourinho may not get a third chance.
