by Michael McCann at Lords
MIDDLESEX fell to a fourth successive defeat in the T20 Blast South Group after losing by 21 runs to Hampshire at Lords on Thursday.
The visitors posted 199-5 led by Michael Carberry, who batted through for 72 not out despite being starved of the strike, facing just 44 balls.
A 118 partnership for the third wicket with Owais Shah, who hit 64 from 45 balls, saw the visitors take advantage as none of the seven Middlesex bowlers managed to build pressure.
Kyle Abbot eventually got Shah out, disappointing as he had smeared the ball for six over square leg, leaving Hampshire 145-2.
Twenty came from the last over of the innings, bowled by Abbott, including a careless no-ball due to the hosts not having enough fielders within the inner ring.
These late runs helped the visitors hit 55 from their last four overs before Middlesex’s wickets fell regularly thereafter.
