Campaign launched to save media employment hub

A campaign to save a popular web-based charity that has helped young talent enter the closed shop of media employment is gaining mass support.

IdeasTap is to close after six years on June 2 due to lack of funding, its founder Peter De Haan announced on Monday.

He explained how the charitable trust set up to fund the project can no longer support it, with attempts to get government funding rejected.

But no sooner had the announcement been made a Save Ideastap campaign was launched, which currently has more than 10,000 supporters on Facebook.

The campaign invites supporters to add their details to a group that is “looking to take positive action” to either save or celebrate the charity that has helped kickstart the careers of aspiring journalists.

Action this week includes collecting at least 20 statements of support from high-profile individuals in the arts, politics and business.

Visit www.saveideastap.com for more information on how to support the campaign.
