H-tech employers Google, Apple, Intel and Adobe Systems have managed to keep their alleged shady employment practices secret by settling a lawsuit out of court.
The action brought on behalf of 64,000 workers alleged the giant companies had conspired to prevent technology workers moving between the firms, damaging their employment opportunities and holding down wages.
Thursday’s agreement averted a trial that would have exposed the tactics deployed by billionaire executives to hold onto their employees.
Terms of the settlement will be provided in documents to be filed in court by May 27, according to a lawyer representing the workers.
Google and Apple declined to comment, but Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy claimed the firm decided to settle “to avoid the risks, burdens and uncertainties of ongoing litigation.”
The suit, which followed a Justice Department investigation, sought $3 billion (£1.8bn) in damages.
