Socialist teachers back Corbyn to lead Labour

JEREMY CORBYN chalked up another victory this weekend when he won the support of Labour’s education section, writes Luke James.

Mr Corbyn won a “clear majority” in a ballot of members at the Socialist Education Association (SEA) annual conference held in London on Saturday, the results of which were announced yesterday.

SEA executive member Martin Dore told the Star: “People were impressed by Jeremy’s vision of a public education service present throughout our lives.

“There were people supporting Andy at the meeting as well, and mentions of Yvette Cooper. But I’m afraid Liz Kendall didn’t receive any support.”

The 2010 leadership results show 388 members of the SEA voted, with 138 going to Ed Miliband.

The teachers’ group becomes the first socialist society to nominate a candidate. The deadline for supporting nominations closes on Friday July 31.
