SCOTTISH communists picketed the Ukrainian consulate in Edinburgh at the weekend in solidarity with their comrades struggling against fascism in eastern Europe.
The Young Communist League (YCL) organised Saturday’s emergency demonstration in response to the fascist foot-soldiers of the February coup who burned dozens of men, women and children to death as they took shelter in a trade-union building in Odessa. Those that fled were beaten and shot.
The US- and EU-installed Kiev government has also barred the Communist Party’s 32 MPs from parliament.
YCL Scottish organiser Johnnie Hunter expressed his profoundest solidarity with anti-fascists in Ukraine.
“Those comrades are now, like their grandparents before them, on the front lines against fascism in Europe.
“Expulsion from parliament cannot silence the communists who, now more than ever, are demonstrating that this is our choice in the past or the future: socialism or barbarism!”
The YCL has called an emergency demonstration outside Ukraine’s London embassy near Holland Park Tube station on Wednesday from 6pm.
