POLICE yesterday identified the body of a young woman stabbed on an Essex footpath and warned of revenge attacks.
Saudi Arabian Essex University student Nahid Almanea was found on Tuesday with several stab wounds.
Essex Police said it may have been a hate crime, with Ms Almanea “targeted because of her distinctive dress, which would have identified her as likely being a Muslim.”
Police are also investigating calls for revenge made online.
A middle-aged man from Colchester was arrested, raising suspicions of a link to the murder of James Attfield earlier this year.
But Detective Chief Superintendent Steve Worron said that “for the moment they remain separate but parallel investigations.”
Members of the public are urged to come forward with any information, by ringing the major investigation team on (01245) 282-103, Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555-111.
