Officer ‘stole from  police tuck shop’

Crime: A police response officer has been charged with theft of cash from a police station’s tuck shop.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: “The charge relates to the theft of monies between June 30 2014 and August 12 2014 from a tuck shop based at Guildford police station.”

The 29-year-old will appear at Aldershot magistrates’ court on October 2.

 

Benefit delays

Benefits: Delays facing some claimants of a flagship government welfare scheme are “unacceptable”, Minister for Disabled People Mark Harper admitted yesterday. 

Department for Work and Pensions data showed that almost half of the 529,400 cases registered for the personal independence payment between April 2013 and the end of July this year had been delayed.

 

Prospect vote

Industrial: The British Association of Colliery Management announced yesterday its members have voted to join professionals’ union Prospect. 

Prospect deputy general secretary Garry Graham said: “This great result reinforces Prospect position as the union of choice for professionals working in all areas of the energy industry.”

 

‘Ineffective police’

Investigation: Merseyside Police was deemed “ineffective and unco-ordinated” yesterday after a review of the 2012 murder of Becky McPhee by her estranged husband said it could have been prevented.
