NFL star quizzed for barking
GRIDIRON: Oakland Raiders linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong is being investigated for barking at a police dog before Sunday’s defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Armstrong allegedly “lifted his shirt, pounded on his chest and began barking’’ at the dog before heading on to the field.
Pennsylvania law states that it is “unlawful for any person to wilfully or maliciously taunt, torment, tease, beat, kick or strike a police animal.”
O’Farrell to replace Lovett from 2016
CRICKET: Ian Lovett announced his decision yesterday to step down as chairman of Middlesex at the end of the year.
The 71-year-old, who is also a deputy chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board, will leave after the club finished second in the County Championship to Yorkshire.
Lovett will be replaced by treasurer Mike O’Farrell, who will take over on January 1, but will retain his role with the ECB.
Lewsey stepping down from RFU
RUGBY UNION: Josh Lewsey announced his resignation yesterday as the head of Welsh rugby.
The England 2003 World Cup winner will be leaving the Welsh Rugby Union in January, by which time he will have spent nearly two-and-a-half years in Wales.
Lewsey joined the WRU in August 2013 but said his decision to leave Wales was based on personal reasons.
The former Wasps utility back succeeded Joe Lydon in September 2013.
Brown commits to Harlequins
RUGBY UNION: England full-back Mike Brown is targeting trophies after signing a new contract with Harlequins yesterday.
The 30-year-old has been with the Premiership club since joining the academy in 2002. Harlequins confirmed that he had “committed his long-term future to the club” by penning a new deal.
“I feel we can compete at the highest level and push for silverware. Over the coming years I will be playing at my peak,” he said.
