Rangers defender brutally attacks youngster

RANGERS defender Bilel Moshni is facing a lengthy ban after physically assaulting Motherwell defender Lee Erwin yesterday.

The Gers were heavily defeated 3-0, 6-1 on aggregate, with strikes from Marvin Johnson and Lionel Ainsworth — both of which deflected off Rangers defender Marius Zaliukas — and a late John Sutton penalty ensured the hosts’ 30-year run in the top-flight continues.

Rangers will spend another season waiting for a return to the Scottish Premiership but possibly without Moshni after his cowardly antics after the final whistle.

As the players were leaving the field, Erwin attempted to shake Moshni’s hand.

The Tunisian ignored Erwin, who is then seen clearly pushing Moshni in the back who responds by turning around and kicking the striker, following it up with a vicious punch to the face which sent the youngster staggering back.

The former Southend defender was hauled off the pitch by a Rangers official as Erwin left the pitch bloodied by the attack.

A brief melee ensued which led to Motherwell supporters invading the pitch and goading the travelling Rangers fans. Police on horses entered the field in an attempt to steer the home fans back to their seats, to allow the Motherwell players to celebrate their victory.

After the match Moshni, Erwin and unused Motherwell substitute Fraser Kerr were all shown red cards.
